August scalloping in Pasco County was off to a strong start before the season closure, with clear water and good-sized bay scallops being found throughout the waters around New Port Richey, the Cotee River, and surrounding areas. Many trips were producing multiple gallons of scallops, with plenty of good-sized scallops mixed in, although fewer of the bright orange scallops were being found. The clear water made for great visibility and exciting days on the water for families, kids, and scallopers of all experience levels.

While the Pasco County scallop season has since been closed by FWC due to elevated toxin levels detected in the area, we are keeping a close eye on conditions and official updates for a potential reopening.
